Welcome to Lamar’s College Corner! We are so excited to have you at Lamar and help you plan your next steps after you graduate. For some, that means 4-year colleges and universities. For others, it may be a 2-year school that will lead to a 4-year college or university. Some of you want to jump into the workforce with certifications in specific trades or medical programs. Whatever and wherever you see yourself, we are here to help you along the way! Making a plan is the first place to start.
Located for easy access on the second floor of the new building, Lamar’s College Corner is a center for information and assistance for students of all grades to explore post-high school plans, colleges, and careers.
Our mission is to reach every parent and student so that each graduate has a plan for postgraduate education. The College Corner hosts college admission advisor visits, career seminars, parent meetings, and advocacy programs, all designed to give every student and family the information needed to maximize their high school academic experience and navigate the college admission and financial aid process.
Assistance in Spanish is available during school hours from one of our advisors.

Lamar's Counselors and College Corner work hand in hand to make sure all of our students have what they need to be a success in the college application process. Lamar encourages students to start early in looking at different colleges. Lamar strives to have both our students and parents thinking out the college path by holding informative meetings and by supplying information online.
The TSI Assessment measures your strengths and weaknesses in mathematics and statistics, reading, and writing, and is an indicator of how ready you are to handle college-level courses. The results of the assessment, in conjunction with your academic background, goals, and interests, are used by academic advisors to place you in the appropriate course that matches your skill level. The goal is to help you become ready for college-level coursework. There are THREE sections to the TSI, including Math, Reading, and Writing.
Who needs to take it?
Every student planning to attend college needs to take it unless they meet score requirements on external assessments such as the SAT or ACT. You can be exempt from one or all three sections.
SAT
A minimum score of 530 on the Mathematics test for a TSI exemption in math
A minimum score of 480 on the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) for a TSI exemption in both reading and writing
ACT
A student must first achieve a minimum composite score of 23 with:
At least 19 in math for an exemption in math and/or
At least 19 in English for an exemption in reading and writing
Next, it will be helpful for you to complete the practice quizzes in reading, writing, or math. These practice quizzes include sample questions similar to those that you will see on the actual TSI assessment and will help you become familiar with the format. Select the link at the top of the page to get started.
To ensure your assessment test scores accurately represent your skill levels, you may want to review basic concepts in reading, grammar, arithmetic, trigonometry, and algebra. ACC offers resources to help you prepare.
Step 3: Take the Assessment Test
First Pay Testing Fees
If you need the assessment, pay your testing fees online. Save the printed receipt as proof you paid. Request a fee waiver if eligible.
Arrive at the scheduled assessment location, date, and time. Allow at least five hours to complete all test sections. A diagnostic exam may also be required, depending on your results.
Meeting with Wendy Tilford on October 21st we were able to discuss some of the important types applicants should consider when completing their applications.
