Lamar Student Service Center
Goal:
The mission of the Student Service Center is to remove any obstacle(s) that may be impeding the progress of any Lamar High School student. The ultimate goal is to assist students with getting back on track both academically and/or socially.
Through Communities in Schools (CIS), we provide on-site counseling with Licensed Therapists and/or Social Workers to any student who may be having a challenging time while at Lamar.
SSC programs:
The Lamar Success Center (LSC) – The LSC is an extension of the classroom and provides one-on-one instructional support by a teacher. While in the LSC, students may request counseling services through CIS or any of our other social service agencies that partner with LHS. Students may request placement or be referred by parents, Deans, Administrators, and/or teachers. The duration of the assignment is flexible based on the needs of the individual student. Any accommodations or modifications that may be needed for a specific student are met through the Department of Special Services.
The Bridge Program:
The Bridge is an alternative classroom setting that is a mandatory 45-day successful day program for students who have incurred substance abuse-related infractions. The program seeks to get students on track academically and to educate them in reducing and/or eliminating high-risk behavior and acquiring better decision-making skills. Services include Academic Support and Counseling. Upon completion of the program, attendance at monthly meetings is encouraged.
Wraparound Services:
Our Wraparound Services Dept. is here for any Lamar student and their families. We have two Specialists who are available to assist with difficulties that may come up within the home. They provide uniforms, food, and assist with locating funding for utilities when necessary. If social services are needed, they will assist. Wraparound Services Page
Verification of Enrollment (VOE) Form for DPS Purpose
VOE
Requests must be made a day in advance for a VOE to be done. In order to receive a VOE, Students will have to come during their lunch and after school as well.
A Verification of Enrollment (VOE) is needed when you apply for an instructional driver’s permit and/or a license to operate a motor vehicle.
Specific enrollment conditions are required by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to obtain or renew a license.
Conditions that are required for a VOE:

The student is currently enrolled in a public or private school.
- The student was present for 90 percent of his/her classes during the previous semester (If the student was not enrolled at Lamar, please submit a report card from the previous school when signing up).
To request, the student must put their name and HISD Student ID number on the VOE sign-in sheet, which is located in the Attendance Office in N111.
A VOE form is good for one month; the student must sign it as soon as they get it.
VOE can be issued prior to the end of the school year in May and will be good for the entire summer.
Writing Lab
Writing Lab
The Lamar Writing Lab is having our inaugural year during the 2022-2023 school year! Students will be able to sign up for 30-45 minute writing sessions (either virtual or in person) with Writing Consultants from Rice or with Lamar Peer Writing Coaches who have gone through a multi-session training under the model of the Rice Writing Center.
One important difference between a Writing Lab session and a tutoring session is that we aren’t editing your writing–we are guiding you through the writing process! Each writer maintains ownership of their writing in their sessions.
Sessions can cover writing goals such as: idea generation/brainstorming for an assignment, feedback on the content of a piece of writing, help with organizing your ideas in a piece of writing, citation & formatting assistance, post-high school writing (college apps, resumes, cover letters), or visual/oral presentations.
The Lamar Writing Lab is open to all Lamar students for any piece of writing you may have, whether it be a school assignment or a college or job application.
We are located in room N212 (across from the main office on the second floor of the North Building). Our in-person hours will be M-F 7:30-8:30 AM, 11:45 AM-12:45 PM, and 2:00-4:00 PM, with virtual-only appointments from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM.

An extensive eBook service is available, equipping patrons with access to the latest fictional titles, in electronic format. This service extends to providing the most popular books, which are available for reading on a variety of electronic book reading instruments, such as mobile devices and personal computers. Students also have access to a secure wireless network for topic research and assignment completion. In addition, printing is a free service available for students who are printing school-related assignments.
The College Corner is our on-campus college counseling office which offers information and guidance to students who are interested in attending college or a university. The Office of Service Learning is designed to assist students in completing their required tasks for our International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: CAS in the IBDP; and Community and Service in the MYP and IBCC).
The library even features a Coffee Bar, which operates after school, offering hot coffee, drinks, and healthy snacks that students can purchase from our culinary arts students. The library has something to offer to everyone.

These digital resources are available to all students, teachers, parents, and administrators in HISD. Campus access is available through any district computer; access to these resources outside of HISD campuses requires a username and password.
